Tron, on your computer, with friends

So, I haven't put this up, because it doesn't really fit in with my blog, but I have been having so much fun playing it...It's a 3D version of Tron available for Macs, PCs and Linux. It really does feel like you are in the movie/game, you can invite a friend, or group of friends to play with you, it's geekalicious!

Rain Shower

I love showers. When I was a child I designed a shower where you could have the whole ceiling rain on you, have a waterfall at one end, or have a 'fog' steam bath. While these are not as cool as my childhood design they are still pretty amazing. Watch the streaming video if you want to get the full effect (or buy one, to really get the full effect I guess).Link

H.S. Students Create Super Hybrid Car

I drive a hybrid, an Insight. I love it, it is fun to drive, and I get between 53 and 75 MPG, depending on how I drive it. But it is not exactly Speed Racer material, but this one might just be. This super-hybrid didn’t come from the Big 3 or some obscure Euro supercar maker, “The Attack” is the work of the West Philadelphia High School Electric Vehicle Team - a group of 6 high school, YES, high school kids. Mad props to these kids for giving a new meaning to “pimpin’ my ride”. WORD. It’s a hybrid supercar with over 300 hp developed from a AC electric motor powering the front wheels and a 1.9L VW TDi biodiesel powering the rears.

Parallel Universes - More Reality Than Science Fiction

As Woody Allen once put it, "There is no question that there is an unseen world. The problem is how far is it from midtown and how late is it open." Since the discoveries of the new physics, the question of the existence of Parallel Universes –worlds which exist side-by-side along with our own–has taken on renewed interest well beyond mere speculation.
Today, probably more than in any other day, we are facing a revolution in our thinking about the physical universe–the stuff that you and I are made of. This revolution, brought to a head by the discoveries of the new physics, including relativity and quantum mechanics, appears to reach well beyond our preconceived vision, based as it was on the concept of concrete solid reality.

How Rich are You? - much richer than you thought!

We all know that real wealth comes from health, friends, family and opportunities to give. But money comes in handy, too. This site will tell you where you rank out of the people in the world. It is shocking how HIGH up the list I am. A year ago there were 5,946,042,435 people poorer than me. This year it is down to 5,261,216,041. Unfortunately it doesn't mean 700 million people are better off, it means my income has fallen by 75%, as I have progressed to a more simple lifestyle. What is shocking is that while I thought I was living this simple, minimalist life, I am richer than 88% of the people in the world. Enlightening.

The Green Bay Packers - "a community project... to promote community welfare..." (GB Packers bylaws)

The Green Bay Packers are the only fan owned professional sports team (unfortunately, in an ideal world, they all would be, and the days of teams taking off for a new city, and a free stadium, would be over). The New Rules Project has a fascinating history of how this came to be, and the impact on the community of Green Bay (actually a small town, that otherwise would have been deserted by its team long ago).

Ice Cream Activism!

Innovative, creative activism, breaking through to us zombies... what a beautiful thing, anybody want to help me put one together to roll out in the Northwest??
The Tactical Ice Cream Unit (TICU) rolls through the city in an act of intervention that replaces cold stares with frosty treats and nourishing knowledge. Combining a number of successful activist strategies (Food-Not-Bombs, Copwatch, Indymedia, infoshops, etc) into one mega-mobile, the TICU is the Voltron-like alter-ego of the cops' mobile command center. Although the TICU appears to be a mild-mannered vending vehicle, it harbors a host of high-tech surveillance devices including a 12-camera video surveillance system, acoustic amplifiers, GPS, satellite internet, a media transmission studio capable of disseminating live audio/video, and of course, ice cream. With every free ice cream handed out, the sweet-toothed citizenry will also receive printed information developed by local progressive groups. Thus, the TICU serves as a mobile nexus for community activities while providing frosty treats and food-for-thought.

Hosting 'deal' to avoid...

This was originally reccomended, until I tried to leave and 'dreamhost' turned into a nightmare...Dream Host is where SeeTheWay.com was hosted.I am no longer using Dreamhost, and they have made it impossible so far to transfer seetheway.com, hence SeeTheWay.com is down, and I am no longer recommending Dreamhost The newsletters from the CEO can be a little wacky, but it has been a reliable, and reasonable company to work with. I saw an article stating that if you use the code GIVE, they will take $97 off (and it is ~120 before the discount - so an amazing deal). This includes a free domain, and way more storage and bandwidth than others are offering. I haven't tried it (the code), so please let me know how it goes if you do. Several people have now tried it and let me know it works, man this is a great deal!
Please enter the following URL, or click a link above and I may get 10% to help pay for my hosting - Thanks!

Biodiesel Ipod?

What do you think of this? My geek side came across this..., a methanol powered mp3 player, I wonder if one could use biodiesel?

Rachel Corrie's Letters

Rachel Carrie is a hero in my home town. I didn't know her well, but she was a bright light here, working and sacrificing to make the world a better place. Unfortunately she made the greatest sacrifice in 2003, from one of many websites dedicated to her:
...23-year-old American human rights worker Rachel Corrie was crushed to death by an Israeli military bulldozer. She was trying to prevent the Israeli army from destroying the home of a physician and his family in the Gaza Strip, Palestine.

A collection of her inspiring and illuminating letters has been published, they are available for free by download, or can be purchased at IfAmericansKnew.org
or look for it at your local independent bookstore.
A short excerpt;
When I come back from Palestine, I probably will have nightmares and constantly feel guilty for not being here, but I can channel that into more work. Coming here is one of the better things I've ever done. So when I sound crazy, or if the Israeli military should break with their racist tendency not to injure white people, please pin the reason squarely on the fact that I am in the midst of a genocide which I am also indirectly supporting, and for which my government is largely responsible.

The Corporation

Click on "The Corporation" above and it will take you to the site for, and streaming video of, the movie.
I don't know about the quality af the streaming, I own this movie so I didn't bother to watch it over the site.
I still need to track down where I saw the bit torrent of it - I'll post the link when I find it.
I highly reccomend this movie, very illuminating. The CEO of the carpet company is one of my new heroes, and a reminder, it's not as important what you do, as how you do it...

El Deano Hood

Happy Halloween... a little early but it's time to start getting in the mood, getting costumes together, deciding what parties we can make it to... and I came across this pic from a couple of years ago... El Deano Hood! Hmmm, just doesn't have the same ring to it as Robin Hood.

So, I know I promised a download of The Corporation, and it is coming...
but first this is a little more fitting with the Halloween theme...

DARKNESS LIGHT DARKNESS
This is some amazing, and humorous animation from Prague, about 7 minutes long, quick download.
I am no Robin Hood, but atleast I am hooking you up with some free downloads
Peace,
El Deano

Hello everybody out in Computer Land!

Thankyou! I was just enlightened that I am receiving up to 500 visits a month on this blog, almost as many as my website. (update - set up a tracker to verify this and there were over 100 hits on the first day... what's that like 3000 a month?? I am honored - thanks for reading) That may not sound like a lot compared to those that get 500 visits an hour (i.e. BoingBoing.net), but those are focused and provide something for their readers, as opposed to my unfocused ramblings written primarily for my own benefit. I thought there were maybe three of you out there at most. What a pleasant surprise!
However, now that I know you are there, I want to give back, so from now on I will pass on gems I find.

Brilliance
The above link is a great source for The Daily Show, and we all need all the daily show we can get, from what I have read they seem to support the sharing of their show, but I am not a lawyer, check out the legality for yourself, these are torrents, so you'll need a client, but excellent quality, as good as off TV, but sans commercials. I thought Monday's show (10/17) was particularly good (Dolly Parton!).

I'll put in to a link for a free download of The Corporation - a movie you don't want to miss, in my next post,

Thanks again!

Keep Shining!
El Deano
